I recently loaded a king sized mattress into my truck and everyone around me said, “You don’t need to strap that down, it isn’t going anywhere.” I strapped the fucker down. Do not underestimate what a couple tenths of a PSI of air pressure can do when there are a lot of square inches.

Back in college, I saw a guy riding a bike with an an umbrella during a rainstorm. Then he went around a corner. It did not end well for him.

There was a couple in my parents graduating class who were getting married. One week before the wedding the groom went to get a new mattress. Instead of tying it down , him and his future brother in law laid down on it in the back of a truck.
It flew out with them on it. The brother in law died, and the groom was severely injured.
That story is the reason I tie everything down, As best I can. And usually pull over a few miles later to check on it.

Memorial Day is a very good time to buy a mattress. But yeah, get the delivery. Hell, at a standalone mattress store, they may well throw in free delivery to make the sale if you tell them that’s what it will take.

I think it’s been too long to get it off my dash cam, but a couple weeks ago, I saw a car driving with poorly secured plywood sheets that fallen forward and were blocking almost the entire windshield...

Ouch, yeah, a king size mattress is 76*80, that is 6080 square inches. If it builds up just 0.1PSI of pressure difference, the mattress and two guys are going for a ride. Someone did some testing and at 70MPH the roof of a 2008 Civic with nothing on it generated 0.0 435 PSI of a pressure difference, and that is a fairly aerodynamic configuration. A truck with a mattress is far less opto mizied.

This reminds me of a local furniture store around here that has a Fiat driving around for a pretty clever marketing campaign for mattress delivery.
